If you are an avid Mung Beaner you probably have noticed that the posts to the blog have been a bit sparse the last couple of weeks. This is because we’ve been running around a lot recently due to my mother’s very declining health. I’m not really comfortable posting about it so I’ll leave it at that. On a happier note we had a shower-by-proxy over the weekend which has landed us some baby loot. We got our car seat which was awesome. Driving home from Houston with it in the Mazda5 really brought home the idea that we are having a baby really soon. Also, I was starting to worry a bit about needing to purchase all of our diapers and I did some quick math on how much money they would be and when we got home I opened my mail and what do I find but a check from our mortgage company with the amount I needed for diapers and a few other essentials in the form of a refund check on our extra escrow money. Pretty sweet.

We are down in Houston right now and since coming down a little over a week ago the baby has gone “buck wild” and is growing as fast as it can, possibly faster than Kisha’s belly can.

First off, a mung bean is our nickname for our little baby. Since we have chosen not to know the sex of our baby we have found it nice to have a little nickname for the baby that is gender neutral and for some reason we have a tendency to nickname babies as beans. We did it with our neighbors whose surname sounds a lot like cappuccino, so their little baby was given the nickname, the little espresso bean.
Officially a mung bean is the seed of Vigna radiata which is native to India. The split bean is known as moong dal, which is green with the husk, and yellow when dehusked. The beans are small, ovoid in shape, and green in color (Wikipedia). Mung beans are commonly used in Indian and Asian cuisines and is very high in protein so it is often part of a vegetarian diet.

My wife let me know that I’ve been a bit lazy with posting recently so here I go. I just finished up two classes for my MBA so I had a rare thing. A week with no homework so I spent some time doing as little as possible and some time doing some serious nesting. I ended up doing really well in my classes, getting an A and an A-. Not to Shabby.
On Saturday we ended up taking a little time go outside and enjoy the day rather than just working on the house. We went to Town Lake Park and sat down and enjoyed some delicious Veggie Burgers from P. Terry’s on S. Lamar and Kisha got some knittin’ on too. It was a beautiful day and we ran into one of our neighbors and friend, Jeff. It was a perfect afternoon.

On Sunday it was house day. We put up some wall shelves that I’ve been dreading installing for about a year, hung some new numbers on the house and even got a guy to come over to quote some cabinet doors for our kitchen. We decided to take the plunge and have him make them for us so hopefully he doesn’t disappear like many of our other home repair people have in the past. I’m out of words for now so hopefully I’ll come up with some more soon and post before I get a talkin’ to again from Big K.
