As you all know by now The Mung Beans are anti-animal testing unless it involves our own animals. Today, Kisha picked up my baby sling from The Austin Baby Store. I went through some tough decisions on what sling to get, at first I was going to get an organic ring sling but I decided ring slings looked a bit too feminine and also I found out about a really cool solarview fabric that is very breathable and provides the baby with SPF 70 sun protection. So I ended up going with a 360 Bebe Sling, though Kisha is a bit upset since this is the same sling she got as her “easy sling.” What can I say, she picked a really good sling.

Somehow we’ve already lost/misplaced a sock. These things are so ridiculously small and adorable!
We’ve starter washing all of the Little Mung Bean’s clothing today, so far we’ve done the whites or off whites since we’ve gotten a lot of unbleached organic clothing. I read a crazy fact today. 25% of all the insecticides used globally are used on conventionally grown cotton, this is just nuts but it makes sense if you are producing something like cotton for fabrics who cares what you use on it right? If you want to know more check out EcoChoices FAQ on Cotton.

Guess what, Kisha is knitting. SURPRISE!

Week 37 or something like that. I got an email today from Babycenter.com congratulating me that my baby was full term! Yeah, I’ve been working pretty hard watching Kisha’s belly grow and seeing her go through so many changes both physical and emotionally that it was nice that I was recognized by the Baby Center for all my hard work.
As you can see Kisha is proudly posing next to our baby’s dresser which will do double duty as our changing station. We just hung up the Haba mobile that we got off Amazon.com this evening and its is just so cute. I couldn’t resist getting a “Mung Bean” eye view of the mobile.

Ok, the title is a bit much but come on. $3.419 a gallon for regular gas, this is just nuts. I remember when i bought my VW Golf back in July 1998 that it was an amazing sight to ever see the car hit $20 to fill it completely up. I decided to do some research to see what I was paying back then and to make sure I wasn’t just having selective memory.
In July 1998, the national average for regular gas was $1.041 a gallon, that means to fill my car up with the same amount of gas it would of been $12.08, compared to $39.67. So when did my car break $20 a fill up, lets see that would of been around April 5th, 2004. Thats about a year after “Mission Accomplished” in Iraq on May 2nd 2003. Yippie!
Ok, I promise to get back to posting about the baby next.

There is no way of really knowing what toys a baby will end up liking. There are just too many variables, but sometimes you are given a toy that you just can tell has the perfect feel and weight that a child could just not resist wanting to drag around with them everywhere they go. This little bear is it. It is just awesome with a nice little bean bag butt that enables it to sit perfectly and smile at you.
The little baby countdown timer is telling us that we have 3 weeks and 1 day until our due date. That is just insane. We had a bit of an oh shiznit moment when we saw it. Kisha’s reaction was to exclaim, “Must knit faster!” Wild times.

We had our 2nd and final shower over the weekend. My sister, Lisa, was kind enough to host it for us and she came over from Houston to enjoy in the festivities. My dad was going to come with her but he went off and threw his back out last Wednesday. The poor guy is getting hit from all sides right now but as always he is taking it in stride and with dignity.
The shower itself was great. We had lots of friends and family come out to celebrate the coming on the Little Mung Bean. They also were nice enough to bestow upon us gifts for the little one which is much appreciated and needed.
Today I spoke a little with a coworker who recently had his first child and he talked about all the hand-me-downs that he and his wife received from friends. My reaction, internally of course, was eww god other people’s crap. Maybe it is because I grew up only with a big sister so I never really got many hand-me-downs or maybe I’m just a yuppie/hippie snob but I just don’t dig ‘em. I’m trying to be a nice good Buddhist who isn’t attached to things but man oh man I just love me a new in box thing. I enjoy opening a package and clipping off the tags of new things. Cutting of the tags off a cute little onesie is a great feeling. Outside the materialistic aspect of it all, we are also trying to be as non-toxic as possible with things that we are exposing the Little Mung Bean to during its first few weeks/months of life, so hand-me-downs don’t normally fit in this category. Also, we are trying to avoid having tons of plastic stuff aka crap, so we are being highly selective on what we bring into our tiny 950ish square foot home.
This post kinda went all over the place but maybe thats where it was suppose to go.

I got the latest version of this blog software and I now have the ability to post “private” posts to the site. I’m planning to use this occasionally when the baby is born since I have no idea who might be reading the site, especially all the odd people who stumble upon the site looking for mung bean recipes or other mung bean related excitement.
SOOOOO, if you are an avid mung beaner and you know who you are please go to the register link at the bottom left of the page and register. Also, you can just click HERE
The vast majority of posts will be public, but there might be an occasional one that will be private.
