I know I’ve been bad about posting pictures so here are a few of Lily checking out her new play gym. Right now she just wiggles (one of her many nicknames is Wiggles McGee) around and looks at it but she definitely likes it. Lily’s soon to be best buddy, Ella, tried out the Selecta Musina today and she gave it many squeals of approval.

Here is another shot of Lily just being cute.

It is official, I’m done with school at least for a very long time. The week after Lily was born I was hard at work finishing the last bits of school work for my MBA from Bellevue University and it was crazy. I was literally the writing dead. I just finished submitting the paperwork to get my degree processed and I’m just amazed. I’m just not really used to not have a constant stream of homework to do, but I’m pretty sure Lily and Kisha can find things to keep me busy.
BTW, I do recommend my school. Bellevue is up in Nebraska and has many great programs to help people finish their undergrad degrees and also get a variety of Master degrees. They offer classes online and in person at the campus, though I’ve never actually seen the school. One day maybe.

So we found a good solution to our play gym dilemma. We wanted something that wasn’t horribly expensive and we wanted something that wouldn’t give Lily sensory overload. We found the Musina by Selecta. Selecta is another great German toy manufacturer whose standards of quality and safety just make US companies look really pathetic. Our plan is to put out a nice little mat or sheepskin and let Lily go at it. Also, to confirm my purchase I found out that this product is in the Michael Olaf Montessori Company catalog, The Joyful Child. This catalog is awesome in case you haven’t seen it yet. It is a cross between a catalog and a child development book. I suggest checking it out if you haven’t. With all of the craziness going on getting our lives in order and trying to keep up with Lily’s needs we were totally caught off guard in getting things ready for Lily’s development. I just kept thinking, oh we have weeks before she’ll be interesting in things like that.

Anyone have any recommendations for baby play gyms? Lily really likes checking out her mobile while we are changing her and squirming around so we are thinking she might enjoy laying in a play gym and doing her wiggles. Right now we are thinking about the Baby Einstein Seek and Discover Deluxe Activity Gym but we aren’t super keen on all the plastics. Any thoughts?

Today was a good day. It was our first weekend alone as a new family and we had a pretty relaxing day. We had a couple of errands to run which went off without a hitch and Lily has pooped 3 little poops today, which is freaking fantastic. We also got some great pics today too.
Check out my big feet!

We had our first traditional pediatric doctor appointment today and it went pretty well. We visited a new doc named Dr. Valerie Wheelock. She was very nice, a little different than we expected since she was pretty young and didn’t wear the white coat but we liked that about her. She’s also very flexible in her views about vaccines and the time lines for administering them. She also only uses 100% mercury free vaccines which is a plus.
She did a once over on Lily and says everything looks good. She recommended that we give Lily some flax seed oil with some breast milk once a day to help lubricate things and hopefully help her poop a little easier. This suggestion was a great one and not one that we expected from a traditional doc. Other than that Lily is in great shape, she still a little under her birth weight but she is gaining weight so no one is concerned. We also found out that the little red bumps on her that look a little like ant or flea bites are just a normal baby thing, she had a fancy word for it but it was too fancy for my ears. Right now Lily and mom are home sleeping and hopefully we’ll have a great weekend. This will be our first weekend alone since Lily was born and we are looking forward to getting into the swing of things as a new family of 3.

Lily had her first “relatively” unassisted poop today! The best way to describe it was that someone set off a poop bomb in her pants. I literally heard it over the phone when Kisha was talking to me as I was driving home from work.
I describe this poop as “relatively” unassisted because last night, per GB’s request, Kisha drank a cup of Smooth Move Tea. Smooth Move Tea is basically Senna tea, which is a natural laxative.
Either way, we’ll take it. Lily is happy as a clam now. We still have a pediatrician appointment tomorrow just to double check everything but whew we are definitely relieved right now. It was exactly 7 days ago that Lily last pooped and that was with the assist of a glycerin suppository.
We are definitely on cloud #2 right now.
